Anyone who remembers the polio epidemic of the 1950s, or knows of someone who was affected by it, will be interested in Splendid Solution: Jonas Salk and the Conquest of Polio by Jefffrey Kluger. April 2005 marked the 50th anniversary of the announcement that Jonas Salk's polio vaccine was considered safe and effective.
