Suggested minimum qualifications are:

• State Library Certification at Level III or above with the completion of Iowa Library Management for Staff, Public Library Management I & II (Free Continuing Education courses. Can be completed after hired).

• 60 semester hours of college credit from an accredited college or university or 10 years work experience. Library experience a plus but not required.

• Bilingual capabilities would be considered a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Children's Library
  • Plan and carry out children's programs and services
  • Recommend new equipment for the Children's Library
  • Suggest plans for extending Library services
  • Supervise Library Assistants
  • Provide reference assistance to patrons
  • Assist customers with computers, faxes, photo copies and other technology
  • Circulation procedures
  • Filing, typing, and other office work
  • Shelving and organizing materials
  • Materials processing and repair
  • Create Power point slides for electronic bulletin board
  • Prepare orders for new materials for the Children's Library
  • Catalog and process new materials
  • Attend workshops and continuing education courses
  • Career potential
  • Other duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Starting salary/wage will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Denison is located an hour away from Omaha/Council Bluffs metroplex. The dynamic, growing, and diverse community is made up of approximately 9,000 residents and is the county seat in Crawford County. The library has an estimated service population of more than 24,000 people area-wide.
